A DTPA renal scan is a type of nuclear medicine imaging test used to evaluate how well your kidneys are working and how effectively urine is draining from them.

It uses a radioactive tracer called Diethylenetriamine pentaacetate (DTPA) renal scan tracer (DTPA), which is injected into a vein. A special gamma camera then tracks how this tracer moves through the kidneys.
