The RBC folate test measures the level of folate (vitamin B9) stored inside your red blood cells. Unlike a serum folate test (which shows short-term levels in blood), the RBC folate test reflects long-term folate status over the past 2–4 months, because red blood cells carry folate throughout their lifespan.
