The FDP test measures the presence of fibrinogen degradation products in the blood. Fibrinogen is a protein essential for blood clot formation. When a blood clot forms and is subsequently broken down by the body’s natural clot-dissolving process (fibrinolysis), fragments of fibrin and fibrinogen—called fibrinogen degradation products—are released into the bloodstream.
