Specimen Required: Clean-catch midstream urine, preferably first morning sample.

Purpose / Indication:
This test is performed to:

1.  Detect and identify aerobic bacteria or other microorganisms present in the urine that may cause urinary tract infections (UTIs). 
2.  Determine the susceptibility of the identified bacteria to antibiotics. 
3.  Screen for the presence of 22 specific drugs or their metabolites in urine, which may include common substances such as opioids, cannabinoids, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and others (specific panel depends on laboratory).
