A urine culture (aerobic) is a test used to detect and identify bacteria or fungi that may be causing a urinary tract infection (UTI).

• “Culture” means the lab tries to grow any microbes present in the urine sample. 
• “Aerobic” means it checks for organisms that grow in the presence of oxygen (most UTI-causing bacteria like E. coli). 
•  It also usually includes antibiotic sensitivity testing, which shows which medicines will work against the infection.
