This test involves the microbiological culture of a vaginal swab sample to detect and identify aerobic bacterial pathogens responsible for vaginal infections. The specimen is cultured under aerobic conditions to allow the growth of disease-causing bacteria.

Once bacterial growth is detected and organisms are identified, an antibiotic susceptibility test using a 22-drug panel is performed. This helps determine the most effective antibiotics for treatment by assessing whether the isolated organism is sensitive, intermediate, or resistant to each drug.
