This test involves the collection of a vaginal swab specimen to identify aerobic bacterial pathogens that may be causing infection. The sample is cultured under conditions that favor the growth of aerobic bacteria. Once the organisms are isolated, a 12-antibiotic sensitivity panel is performed to determine which antibiotics are effective against the identified bacteria.
