Test Description / Purpose:
This test is performed to detect and identify anaerobic bacteria in clinical specimens. Anaerobes are bacteria that grow only in the absence of oxygen and are commonly associated with:

•  Deep tissue infections 
•  Abscesses 
•  Intra-abdominal infections 
•  Pelvic infections 
•  Certain bloodstream infections
