The Philadelphia chromosome test is a specialized cytogenetic or molecular genetic test used to detect the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph), which is an abnormal chromosome formed by a translocation between chromosome 9 and chromosome 22, written as t(9;22).

This translocation creates a fusion gene called BCR-ABL1, which produces an abnormal tyrosine kinase protein that leads to uncontrolled cell division
