Chromosome analysis using cord blood is a prenatal diagnostic test performed on fetal blood obtained from the umbilical cord to study the babyβs chromosomes and detect genetic abnormalities.
The procedure used to collect the sample is called Cordocentesis, where a fine needle is inserted into the umbilical cord under ultrasound guidance to withdraw fetal blood, usually after 18 weeks of pregnancy.
