A bone marrow smear examination is a microscopic study of bone marrow aspirate obtained from sites such as the posterior iliac crest. The sample is spread on glass slides, stained (commonly with Leishman, Giemsa, or Wright stain), and examined under a microscope to assess marrow cellularity and morphology.
