This test detects and quantifies BK Polyomavirus DNA in clinical specimens (such as blood, urine, or plasma) using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. BK virus is a member of the polyomavirus family and can cause significant complications in immunocompromised patients, particularly renal transplant recipients, where it may lead to BK virus-associated nephropathy (BKVAN).
