This test detects the presence of the Factor V Leiden mutation in the F5 gene, which is associated with an increased risk of abnormal blood clot formation (thrombophilia). The mutation makes the clotting factor V resistant to inactivation by activated protein C, increasing the likelihood of venous thrombosis.
