The dsDNA antibody test measures the presence of antibodies directed against double-stranded DNA in the blood. These antibodies are a type of autoantibody, meaning the immune system mistakenly targets the body’s own DNA. Detection of dsDNA antibodies is most commonly used in the diagnosis and monitoring of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disorder.
