Helicobacter pylori is a stomach bacterium, but its effects can extend to the upper gastrointestinal tract and oral environment. Chronic H. pylori infection may be associated with acid reflux, gastritis, and altered gastric acid secretion, which can indirectly influence saliva pH. Saliva pH reflects the balance between acids and buffers in the mouth. In individuals with H. pylori infection, lower (more acidic) saliva pH may occur due to gastroesophageal reflux or changes in oral microbial flora. Some studies suggest the oral cavity may act as a reservoir for H. pylori, potentially affecting oral health and salivary composition.
